Platform: PC and HTC Vibe
Role: Team lead, game designer and programmer
Team: Ian Gallegos (3D artist), Suriana Ibañez (3D character artist), Antonio Torrealba (UI artist)

My contribution to the project

Team lead and game designer

  • Designed, iterated and prototyped our OverCooked-inspired game mechanics.
  • Designed and conceptualized the cozy kitchen environment.
  • Managed the team to follow the game design pillars.
  • Developed a good working enviroment with effective communication.

Programmer

  • Developed and implemented the game systems including order management, customer AI and time tracking mechanics.
  • Integrated OpenXR SDK to enable VR functionalities for both PC and VR platforms.
  • Collaborated with 3D and UI artists to incorporate assets, ensuring consistency and performance across the game.

Postmortem of the project

What went well

  • We were able to complete the project within the university’s time limits.
  • We were able to develop a good working environment with effective communication, which facilitated the delivery of assets for implementation.

What went wrong

  • It was not tested enough to detect all the bugs, at the time of delivery the game did not work, with extra time it was fixed so that players could play it.
  • A version was developed with monsters that annoyed you while cooking that was never shown.

What I learned

  • Learned to program state machines, timers and object comparators.
  • Learned the basics of the Unity OpenXR SDK.
  • Learned to manage a small team to follow the game design pillars to the letter.
